Cooking with Mother Goose

Historic Foodways is proud to announce our newest cooking program! Come discover the food world of Mother Goose!

Join our staff on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Governor’s Palace kitchen, as we cook our way through some of our most beloved nursery rhymes. Visitors will have a chance to watch dishes literally step off the pages of a book and onto the table: porridge, bird pies, tarts, puddings and more. Staff will also discuss the “true” or hidden meanings of some of our most popular and beloved rhymes.

Sing a song of sixpence a pocket full of rye,
Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened the birds began to sing,
Oh wasn’t that a dainty dish to set before the king?

In addition, families are invited to participate in a “Nursery Rhyme Treasure Hunt” inside and out of the Governor’s Palace. During the free-flow hour between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., children can search through the grounds and house to find 10 hidden nursery rhymes. Participants can pick up a treasure hunt sheet in the kitchen during programming hours.

There is no additional ticket needed for the event and is family friendly. We hope that you will join us to make our newest special programming event a big success!
